My transmission seems to be messing up. It does fine until I reach around 40-45 mph, then it whines, and the rpm's jump up and it slams into the next gear. When I slow down or stop, it doesn't want to move again. It's almost like it's in neutral. Any ideas on what's causing it? |

How many miles on the Jeep? When was your last transmission service? |

About 125,000. I'm not sure of the last service. I bought it from my parents (who bought it new in 05). I will ask them, but I doubt it has ever been properly serviced come to think of it. |

IIRC the service intervals for the tranny at 60/120 depending on use. Heavy use (towing, off-road) they recommend 60. Might start with doing a fluid and filter change, that will be cheaper than any other service on it. |

Reading on another sight, seems like it might be the torque convertor |

Anyone ever change out a torgue converter? Is it more difficult than changing clutch? |

Changing a TC is easier than doing a clutch, but very similar in that you need to remove the tranny from the motor to do it. Once the transmission is dropped, you just pull the old one, pour some fresh fluid in the new one, and pop it on there. Don't forget to pour some fluid into the new one!! |
