Let me start by saying any help is appreciated.

Last week I went to back out of my driveway and I heard a rough noise and my Jeep jumped on me. That got me worried so I went to go forward a few times and it was okay but on the 5th try it jumped again. Pretty rough. I took it to a mechanic and he said it looks like the problem was the transfer case. He replaced it yesterday and I drove it home but I still heard a slight rough noise. I figured it was from the new transfer case just getting worked in. Reverse was fine as was putting it in drive. No jumping at all... Well later that evening I went to the local track (running) to get a few laps in. When I went back to the parking lot, hoped in my car and tried to put it in reverse to leave, it was stuck in park. I finally worked it into reverse however it jumped bad again. In drive too. It was doing the exact same thing as before the new transfer case went in which leads me to believe the problem wasn't the transfer case at all. My hunch now is it is either the transmission or the rear end. The mechanic said he checked the transmission and it was fine. Now, I'm skeptical because it appears his fix didn't work out. I'm by no means a car expert so I wanted to tap some of the minds hear for any advice/expertise on what this sounds like. Again, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Does that require a whole new transmission or just a repair? I'm trying to figure out about how much I'm looking at spending.
