O.K. forum genii,
2005 Liberty diesel, harmonic balancer has give up the ghost. Removed the balancer for the time being and the engine runs smoother than when the balancer and all of its pieces were there. Maybe why the automatic transmission fluid check stick was vibrating out of the holder. Balancer is dealer item and no aftermarket that I can find. How long can you run with no harmonic balancer in the engine? Also, how many miles do you expect the timing belt to run. Got 110,000 on her now. Recently replaced the transmission/airconditioner cooling coil on this girl. I suspect the transmission oil leaking from the coil was forced back by air flow into the balancer and the oil on the internal rubber or neoprene center fracked it out which caused the knocking of the balancer.
Thanks in advance for all your thoughts.

Hi Doc,
I don't have a CRD, but maybe I can help out a little. If you post your question in the 'CRD - love that torque!' section, you'll probably get better answers because CRD owners will be looking there. I have read enough about CRDs to remember that the timing belt should be changed about every 100,000 miles, so that will be important to do ASAP. If it breaks or slips, the consequences for your engine can be expensive. I don't know about the harmonic balancer-- that must be a CRD thing. Anyway, good luck! :JEEPIN:
