New to Jeep and 4*4! So please excuse basic question Just bought used liberty sport with command trac. Have read numerous things about changing from to 2Hi to 4Hi. Have done that okay and vehicle displays part time when moving to 4hi by pulling the lever. However tried to engage N and 4Lo at the recommend speed low speed but the lever doesn't appear to want to travel past 4hi ! Am I doing something wrong ? Or do I have to really yank the lever past what appears to be the end of travel. Thanks in advance. |

Mine works fine but I have to be only just moving and of course you can only use 4X4 when on very loose or slippery terrain ![]() |

There is a little move you have to make to get to N and 4LO: Once you are in 4HI, shift your transmission to neutral and coast at about 3-5mph. Push the T-case shift lever toward the passenger seat if a Left Hand drive Liberty or pull toward you if you have a Right Hand Drive. The T-case will now be in neutral. Once in Neutral, shift to 4LO by pulling the lever all the way up - you'll probably hear some grinding noise as the gears mesh but that is normal. The shift pattern looks something like this: [Front of vehicle] I - 2HI I - 4HI \ - Neutral I - 4LO As a reminder...DO NOT drive your CommandTrac in 4HI on dry or high-traction surfaces, even wet pavement. The CommandTrac does not have an internal differential and so any turns on high-traction surfaces will result in driveline binding and could very well severely damage your driveline. Hope this helps!
