Post subject:  largest, widest tires for stock rims and suspension

I found a thread about a month ago after lots of reading that gave suggestions on the largest/wide tires that will fit a stock CRD after slight modification (pinchweld, etc) but I can't find it now. Someone please help me.. I plan on getting a aftermarket front bumper soon, but my tires are not going to last. Also planning on a lift soon, but not in the budget at the moment.

90% of my driving is on pavement, but I have to go down un-maintained single-lane mudways occasionally to get to radio tower sites..

I don't mind a little bit of rubbing on full turns until I can get my lift kit.
Keeping stock rims -I have P255 70R16 Cooper road tires at the moment.

If you are running 255-70-16s now you are pushing the limits of what size you can run. Most only run 245-70-16s with stock / sagged suspension
I wouldn't try to go any larger without a lift.
Even with the lift 245-75-16 or 265-70-16 is the biggest you'll be going
To run a aftermarket bumper you'll need to upgrade your springs as well to Ironman or OME, made for the CRDs
OH and we do have a wheel and tire section

If you do not have funds for new springs/shocks lift, you could do a clevis lift on the stock to get some additional front lift. Rear has more clearance. :JEEPIN:
