I am looking at trading my wifes grand am on a 2004 grand cherokee laredo 4x4 w/ 60k miles and the 4.2L engine. What does anyone know good or bad about this engine it is gonna be a daily driver to and from work, 10 miles round trip and the ocassional trip with a 6.5x12 trailer with 2 quads on it. What can you tell me, any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Garrett

Some thing is strange here... I do not remember the Grand Cherokee ever having a 4.2 engine. That is the older engine like in a YJ. Later...Clint

If it's the 4.0L, then it's the old tried and true I6 that will run forever, has nice low end torque, and will do you fine, unless you want to drive over mountain passes at 75 towing your trailer. If it's the 4.7, My wife had one in a Dodge Durango. Well, it's a small V8. Does a nice job. It was a little under powered for what we wanted it for, but that wasn't the engines fault (wife's ZJ has the 5.9L!). It'll be more than enough for what you want to do.

ZJ make great trail rigs. Lots of room and if set up they work great for some very tough trails. In stock form they do a great job as well. Hope that helps. Later...Clint
