I have a 98 zj with serious front diff noise and pulled some slivers of metal from the magnet on the diff cover. i guess my question is where do i find good parts cheap to do the rebuild and how labor intensive. i dont really want to take it to a shop i want learn to do it myself. i have the 3.73 gear. its my only transportation at the moment so i pulled the front drive shaft so it doesnt make the so bad now but i cant go off-road with it.

there are a lot of places that sell master rebuilds....

How much metal? It is normal to have some metal stuck to the magnet. Also. are you sure it is the diff that is making noise? It could be a wheel bearing.

Why would you say you want to find "cheap" parts for something as important as you front differential?

You do understand that - ESPECIALLY with automotive parts in this day and age, you get what you pay for.

im sure its the diff just rebuilt transfer case and cv axles just replaced and with the front drive shaft out theres no noise. only when power is applied is there a noise. when i pulled the diff cover it was a long sliver of metal that was not normal wear. sorry not cheap but i dont want to get raped on the price.
