Post subject:  Replacement tire options and decisions...P245/60R18's...

The wife's 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited HEMI 4x4 is now at 44,823 miles. It will have been in service 4 years December 29th, 2013. After the first or second tire rotation, I extrapolated, based on the new tread depth and tread depths at rotation #1 and rotation #2, that I'd be lucky to get 45k miles out of the OEM P245/60R18 Goodyear Fortera HL OWL rubbers.

I'm at 4/32nds on each of the tires....so it appears as if the OEM rubbers will end up exceeding my expectations. I'll need to replace them before the snow starts flying in December.....and that will be about another 6,000 or 7,000 miles.

I've been pleased with the performance of the tires. They have great dry traction, great wet traction, extremely even wear characteristics, a very quiet noise level, and I'm old*school and like the outline white letter tires!!!! The only time they ever required balancing was when I had all four wheels replaced under warranty for a clearcoat issue.

Pisser #1.....The Fortera HL's are no longer in production. :furious:

Pisser #2.....No other tire manufacturer (based on searches on tirerack.com) offer any P245/60R18 tires in outline white letters. :furious:

I'm a big Bridgestone fan (I had Dueler A/T REVO's on my 2002 Liberty Sport 4x4 and on the 2005 Liberty Limited CRD 4x4) so Bridgestone is a strong contender. The REVO's on the Liberty CRD became noisy, and I replaced them with Firestone Destination LE's. I'm not opposed to going with Firestone again. I also had Goodyear Wrangler SR/A's on the 2002 Liberty Sport.....and they were right up there with the Fortera HL's...

Help me decide by casting your vote in the poll.

Both the Firestone Destination LE2s on my Astro and the Yokohama Geolandar A-T/S on my Liberty (and the H-T/S on my old Bravada) are all OWL, but mounted black writing out). All from tirerack.

The Liberty's tires are a month old, so I'm not sure why you're saying no one makes OWL tires any more.

Perhaps I should clarify by stating that no tire manufacturer offers a P245/60R18 in outline white letters anymore...

You can still find P245/60R18 Fortera HL's online in quite a few places.. I'm in the process of getting new tires for mine as well.. looked them up first..
decided to go another route altogether though.

I wouldn't run any mentioned above main reason I didn't vote
I know that you are limited to the selection in that size but none of the above would be my answer

Thanks for the reply...I actually have found the Bridgestone Dueler HL 422's for $145 each....and Bridgestone has a $70 rebate on the purchase of four, netting them down to $510 + tax + installation.
