Post subject:  2002 grand Cherokee questions

I have the opportunity to buy a 02 grand Cherokee.
First question is how do I tell which model? I know it has a v8
I'm told it has about 120k on it. It's from my company so it drove 150 miles twice a week between offices and has only had 3k in the last 2 years. I do know the drivers seat was replaced 4 years ago because the coushion was shot. It's got heated seats
What should I be checking into? Bushings brakes smothness etc...

What would a reasonable price to pay for one in pretty good condition?

I got the chance to quickly look at it this afternoon
It's a limited
It's got the 4.7 high output
156k miles
Tires are in good condition.
Leather all looked really nice. Sounds pretty good but I didn't drive it.

1 quarter sized rust mark on the drivers fender.

If I could figure out how to post pictures I would.

I think the 02 is the WJ version of the Grand, and in 05 maybe? they went to the WK body style. The current Grand is the WK2.

My in-laws just purchased an 04 with about the same miles on it for about $6K. It needed some brake work but was otherwise in good shape. It had the 4.0 I6.

Check to make sure the 4wd works as it should, and note the type. QuadraTrac 1 is just full time 4-hi with no low range, so I would avoid that. QuadraTrac 2 has 4-auto, N, and 4-Lo. There may be other transfer cases offered with the WJ as well.

Check that it has the tow package, or a trailer hitch. Might as well have that with the V8. Also it provides a bit of protection for the rear mounted gas tank.

It has the 4 low so it must be quadratic 2?
No tow package unfortunately so I'll be adding that to tow my pop up. Using the 08 KK for that right now.

It's sat for awhile and I took it for a drive. Ran thru all 4 wheel drive options and it all worked. Think all the brakes need replaced. About $300 so not bad.

The steering is kind of tight. Plenty of fluid so I don't know why. The tires are in good condition but I think they need some air.

ANY OTHER CONCERNS I SHOULD BE LOOKING AT?
My price is very reasonable, about a quarter of what they paid

Forgot to mention. Turn signals were. It working when I drive it. And the air conditioning sometimes works and sometimes deosnt.
Not sure what those could be. Read online that the blinker relay can go and cause that. But not sure until I get it and tear into it.

So I got a very important client very happy and finished his job a week ahead of schedule. My company gave me the Jeep as a BONUS for drumming up more business!

For the turn signals I soddered the connections inside the relay and for the ax the connector was loose so cleaned contacts and both work like a charm!!!
Oil change and air filter and throttle body cleaning will be this weekend.

Question??? I'm sure the springs are original and it currently sits level. On rockauto I can get the MOOG overland springs which should raise it an inch and get it back a little above stock height. DEOS that sound right? They are like 120 for all 4.
I can't raise much as my wife likes driving it already and she's only 5' tall

Congratulations on the bonus!

IIRC the WJ can come with adjustable pedals as well as seats so it comfortably fits just about anyone.
Also key recognition that automatically adjusts to saved settings for each individual stored key.
I had the 2004 Overland.
I'm pretty sure the Overland and Laredo? had badges on each front door. Not sure about other models.
Other than that you can look up the build sheet with the VIN#

Original front brakes on mine needed replacing at about 38K (I leased it new). The rotors wore out before the pads. If you get a disturbing vibration in the front when the brakes are applied, check there. That, and one of the tire pressure monitoring sensors failed, the only problems it ever had.
