Have you tried a different key? Keys can get worn down and need replacing.

I've had problems with the ignition on my 2001 Grand Cherokee. Put the key in, turn and sometimes won't turn. Yesterday, couldn't get it to turn at all, even after much jiggling, etc... usually it will eventually turn, not yesterday. Tried the other key, same deal. Anyone have any ideas? |

Thanks for responding. The GC is mine, the Liberty CRD my wife's. As a result, her GC key is almost never used. I tried both and no-go. |

Have you checked that your steering wheel lock bolt is not binding with the steering column tube? If there is any torsional presssure in the locking mechanism, it will break the lock rather than release the bolt. Try rocking the wheel when you turn the key. |
