at least it isn't one of the electrical gremlins that plagues later model XJ's, I have had some hard to eradicate electrical issues on mine, but everything seems to be fixed for now.

Good job on the heater core, I need to do mine at some point, just don't wanna rip out the dash..

Really taking the dash out and everything else inside went pretty easy. Until you get to the heater box that was a pita
to get to the bolts and to line it back up on the reinstall.

Ok, moved on to the next items on my to fix list.
First up the new seat. The old one was in bad shape. Seems like I am sitting 2 or 3 inches higher now.
Image
Then the console mounting bracket in the back was broken.I looked in three different XJ's at the salvage yard and all of them were broken so a picked up the one that was in the best shape. I took the two brackets and made one good one out of them with a couple of screws and some epoxy.
Image
Next was the fender
Image

It all matched but the new fender did not have the pin striping,

Next week I am planning on installing the door pins and bushings and getting the pin stripe done.

Just ordered my hinge pins and bushings, for a 2001 made by dorman part # 38439
Sounds like they will be a pain to install as far as I may have too grind out the old ones. :frankie:

I’ll be watching this closely. My doors will have to come off for the repaint, so my time is coming……. :juggle:

You might wanna send a PM to 1996XJ, he did his, he could give you some pointers, short cuts, etc.. mine need done too, just on the drivers door, kinda low on my priority list for Rokee right now.

All electrical gremlins have been excersised from Rokee, she is demon free now

You will have to remove that new fender you just installed and door. Then cut off hinge's and grind the area so that it's flat !!! I would advise to install one hinge at a time inorder to align door properly, meaning cut one hinge off and leave the other on, reinstall door and align, then weld new hinge in place !!

Hopefully I can just replace the pins and bushings. The hinges are fine no rips or tears in the sheet metal were they mount. The top pin/bushing just has a lot of play in it. If the fender has to come off no problem I know how to do that.

Door Pins and Bushings came in today. 8)

Image

I am going change them out this weekend. From what I have read you grind off the head of the pin apply some heat and knock it out with a punch and a big hammer. I hope.

Got the new door pins and bushings in. Door came off fairly easy,I used a jack to hold up the end since I was by myself.
Image

Used a dremil to grind off the top of the pin.
Image

I was surprised It only took about ten or so good hits with a hammer and punch to get them out. Did not even need to heat it up.

Then installed the new pins/bushings. It was much easier than I thought it would be.(for a change)
