Hi all,

My sister in Florida just got a 91 XJ. (4wd baby!) She sent me a picture on my phone asking what a button is and I have no idea. I'm hoping one of you knows what this is off the top of your head. I don't have a way to post the picture right now.

It's a rocker looking switch next to the steering wheel, says "trans" over the button, "power" under that and "comfort" under the switch. What the heck is that? My KJ doesn't have a comfort button. :?

My guess is something to do w/ shift points on the auto trans. Power probably shifts firmer while comfort shifts smoother.

If nobody here knows for sure, PM MJR, he knows XJ's.

It's a selector switch for 2 different transmission settings. "Comfort" is a more gentle, gas friendly setting for normal driving. "Power" is for, well, power applications like racing, towing, etc.

Sweet, thanks! I doubt she'll be doing much racing but you never know. Thanks a bunch.

I had a '90 Sport back in '2000 so 10 yrs old at the time with somewhere between 65,000 and 85,000 miles on it (I put 20K on it in 18 months) and I had the button but I never really noticed a difference between the two settings. I miss that Jeep!

it affects when the torque converter locks up, and it does make some difference in your gas mileage, but it mostly depends on the driver.

Just FYI, when they deleted those power/comfort switches, they permanently selected the power setting.
