I will be increasing the amount of towing and towing capacity. Additionally, I will now be towing on road and at higher speeds. I have no choice but to add a stronger hitch mounting point for the increased capacity and safer towing.

JKS shackles
* Specifically designed for the Cherokee.
* Specifically designed to optimize rear suspension travel (The extended length and boomerang design allows full compression and extension of the leaf springs)
* Increases rear ride height by approximately 1” inch
* Rigid one-piece construction prevents premature bushing fatigue, a common problem on Jeep Cherokees with inferior shackle designs.
* Greasable Dura-Thane™ bushings and hardware are included for the chassis end of each XJ Shackle for smooth, quiet operation and easy lubrication.
* A durable powdercoat finish is applied for corrosion resistance.

It was time to level the Jeep.

I'm happy with the chassis mounted hitch. I replaced the 11" inch drop for a much shorter drop. Now I can get back to work!

The shackles helped bring up the rear.

The steering pump is installed! For those who are considering a remanufactured pump vs. a new steering pump, my suggestion is to go with the NEW PUMP. Trust me, I went through 3 pumps in less than one year.

I'm still watching your build. Making me jealous. :(

Got rid of my XJ and all my spare projects and bought a house. :5SHOTS:

Don't be jealous. You can always buy another one. They are pretty affordable!

At least you have a house! I'm still trying to build mine!

Here's my first update since spring! The Jeep worked hard all summer and surpassed 190,000 miles on the odometer! It spent most of it's time at low speeds hauling logs, brush, stumps, firewood, duff, etc.

We're going to need new tires sometime next summer, but before we buy new tires, I want to change the rims to a different size. I'm wanting a taller rim that will accommodate a taller tire without any clearance issues. In this picture, I'm test fitting the rim of choice. It's very utilitarian looking and fits my overall wants/needs.

Manufacturer: Chrysler/Dodge
OEM part#: 04782466AC or 04782466AD. According to mopardealerparts.com, 04782466AC is not available any longer and has superseded to 04782466AD directly at Mopar. In other words, it's a direct replacement.
Rim Size: 17" X 7"
Bolt Pattern: 5X114.3
Backspacing: I believe it's a 20mm offset (4.5" inches of backspacing)

That's a great looking wheel! Classic, but unusual for a steel wheel in that it's not painted.

Looks great! I'm working on a XJ build myself.

Thanks! I'm hoping to have them painted soon.

You should start a build thread. 8)

I keep looking at those wheels and really like them but still keep coming up with Metric: 5 X 115
Standard: 5 X 4.52

Some part numbers list them as 5x114.3 and other part numbers list them as 5x4.5. Mopar discontinued all the part numbers and now offers one wheel to cover all previous part numbers: 4782466AA, 4782466AC, 4782466AB, 4782466AD

I found them listed like this:
•Steel Road Wheel
•Black
•Dimensions: 17x7
•Primary Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3/5x4.5

Replaces OE#:
•4782466AA
•4782466AD

If I didn't know others who have actually mounted tires and ran the wheels, I would be hesitant also. But the guys I have talked to on the XJ and Wrangler forums said they have wheeled them and put a lot of miles on the rims without any problems. At this point, I'm pretty comfortable with my decision, especially after test fitting them.

Now that summer is soon approaching, it is time to get the Jeep in good working order. The Jeep needed new tires, so I decided on a set of 5 Goodyear DuraTrac SL 245/70/R17 tires. I had them mounted to the new rims that were painted grey.

Thanks, Tom. I'm very happy with how everything turned out. I went from a 30/9.5/R15 (29.9” tall) to a 245/70/17 (30.6” tall). This is about the maximum height that I would want to go.

Looks good and functional! Not a look you're going to see every day.

I have an appointment to have some Duratracs installed on my KJ on Saturday morning. My BFG TA/KO tires still have life in them and drive better now that they're worn in. But I want to try the Duratracs. Won't look as cool as yours.

Thanks. Even though it's my ranch vehicle, I still use it as a daily commuter and occasional grocery getter. I want it to look good and be functional.

Our KJ will be getting DuraTracs once the Firestone Destination A/Ts are ready to be swapped out. I still have a lot of tread on the Firestones, though! As a matter of fact, I'm about to turn 50,000 miles on the KJ.

I dig your wheel and tire setup. Looks like a great and capable Jeep.
