I know a guy that has a pair of 8" XJ coils for $100, might be a little too much lift for the MJ

There is nothing wrong about SOA but you would probably need a traction bar and you would have to weld on new perches. You should gain about 5" or so of lift.

Does anyone else have this problem? Bought a jeep to be a crawler and truck to have fun in and you dont have any patience and the engine needs rebuilding. thats the boat im in. I wish i could just snap my fingers and it be rebuilt and lifted with soft 8s and 33's

Go measure the rear axle tube diameter and that + perch height will be how much lift you get out of the SOA. As for the springs look for some that are the same dimensions as the MJ springs and build your own leaf packs. With some tuning you can get a leaf pack to flex and ride really nice. Make sure your shackle angle is at the proper position (approx 45*) and that will help the ride and flex. Also if you get a little stiffer spring that will help with axle wrap but not cure it.

Since I built the motor in my XJ I really wish I would have done that first. I built a 4.6 stroker. If you have somebody that is handy with motors you can build a stroker for the same cost as rebuilding a 4.0. But you have to find the parts, ie 4.2L crank and rods, mustang 24lb injectors and the rest of it is pretty much a standard rebuild. Just adding the crank and rods will turn a 4.0L to a 4.5 with about 200HP and 250Ft/lbs. I'm sitting at the 250Hp and 325Ft/lbs with .030 forged pistons, decked block, lunati cam and lifters (4.6L) If I were to do it again though I would build a 4.7 stroker. Costs the same for the .060 bore as the .030 bore.

My XJ has 4.5" of lift and 33x13.5x15 Toyos with open 3.55 gears and it will leave dual streaks about 20' long. I can eat just about any of the basic Japanese vehicles out there and gained a couple MPG's.

Something else to thing about before you get a the lift is with the right bumpstops and trimming you can fit a 35-36" tire on a 4.5" lift. Nice low COG and good diff. clearance with a tire that size.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Time to build a stroker. I'm telling you it's the best mod I've done so far

Go to ComancheClub.com/forums and start reading.
a 6" lift is never cheap. control arms and a new track bar will set you back a bunch. There's a reason those kits cost money. Skimping on parts is going to cost you big later on.
look into the 3.4L Camaro/Firebird engine swap. It's a 95% bolt-in replacement for the 2.8L.
