I am going tomorow to look at a comanche that i found in the local paper for 400 dollars. i plan on making this a project to eventually turn into a straight wheeler. does anyone have any advice on which lift is best for the comanche. i dont know much about them except for the fact that their my favorite jeep ever ;) so if anyone has any advice on where to start to look for lifts and what tire size i should use and all that good stuff it will be much appreciated

thanks
Travis

Any XJ lift will work on the cherokee. Start looking there for the size of lift and tires you want to run thats in your budget.

for the front, on the rear the MJ wont get as much lift because the MJ has longer and more arch in the leafs, even a AAL for an XJ wont give the same amount of lift on the MJ as the XJ.

Check the floor boards because they rust out real bad. What year is it? Im a big fan on the RE and OME lifts for it, but if it were me I would probably piece one together using parts I wanted to get 5.5"

I found a different one that is 2 miles from my house for 800. i am calling him tomorow. its a 86, 4x4. i was looking into the rocky road lift they make for it that you can either get a 5 or 6 inch. i want to run 33s with lots of clearance  i might just find my own parts and do it all a little custom like. but i need some advice if im going to look into buying a kit. so any kit recommendations will be apprieciated. She will be mine tomorow! MJs are the best :)

My advice is before you buy a lift from that company you do a bit of research first. :?

I talked to my brother and a friend and have come to a conclusion. I am going to leaf over the rear and use a 1.5 inch block i have lying around for 5.5 in the rear. and then get OME springs and shocks for the front to bring it to 5.5. Does this sound like it would work?

A very very close to blow v6 2.8. I have to rebuild or swap the motor(most likely swap). The body is in really nice shape for being an 86.

Be careful doing a "spring over" and then also lift blocks, just asking for axle wrap that way plus the springs being that old will even be worse

I agree with Tom if you go SOA there is no need for a block also. What motor are you swapping in? I thought that the 4.0L is kind of hard to swap into the '86 models that didnt come with it.

With that motor, is there really a concern with spring wrap?
I did use a 2" block on my astro, spring wrap was horrible on that thing, started chewing tires on fender well it moved so much. Made myself some 2" lift block/traction bar system for it.

Didn't that motor come from the factory on it's last leg anyway?

Doubt if they will.
And again save yourself a BUNCH of headaches and don't go spring over and blocks, you'll just be sitting along side the road somewhere.

Alcan has some custom 5 inch leaves which lets you keep the spring under where it should be and still have a lift and great ride. MJ spings are a lot longer than the KJs so not many making them but a few are.
