Sounds like a good starting point for a nice rig.

that year XJ has the AX-15, 5 speed tranny, that is a good start for a wheeler, not to mention the 4.0L engine. sounds like a good deal.
good luck.

If the XJ had the option of select-trac AND a manual transmission, why doesn't the KJ?

I can't remember seeing the 242 and manual available together in any Jeep literature. If this is for real, it may change my plans for my next Jeep.

Anyone with experience with the 5-spd? Is this a good unit?

David

as long as it is the AX-15 5speed tranny, then you have a good base to start with, they are strong enough to run up to 35in tires. it also helps with the right gearing.
I am trying to find a AX-15 right now from 90-94 XJ for my buddies MJ we are getting ready to build. It will be hi DD and he is looking at the RE 5inch lift with 33's. So that gives you a good idea.

good luck and show some pic's

well guys got her home so it's time to get her in shape. I'll start with a tune-up then all fluids.
Then a power wash for the engine to look for leakes. any tips would be grate. what to look out for.

Thanks Don

well all the XJ's had problems with leaky valve cover gaskets and rear main seals. also check to see if the t-case has fluid. I would also flush out the coolant system and replace the thermostat. they tend to run a little hot sometimes. other then that, just do your normal checks.

good luck and hope to see some pic's soon.
