For the back why don't you just get a set of 2 gauge heavy duty jumper cables and put a set of red SB175 connectors about a foot from the end. Save you some serious bucks and you would have a set of really neat jumper cables to boot. You can get the jumper cables for about $50.00 and the SB connectors for around $20.00

For what it is worth, my son has a removable front and rear set up and has never used the back and yes he is into serious off roading.

I hate when they use the RED plugs.... RED is 24v. YELLOW is 12v.

as for the idea, I've contemplated the same issue. I want to keep my group 29 deep cycle in the trunk area, hooked to the cig lighter for charging with an isolator, and have the ability to put the winch in either the front or back, also with the receiver bracket.

I've decided to go with a WARN removable winch mount for the XJ. I need some help figuring out the best methods to wire this thing front and rear. But then I read that most cheaper jumper cables are inadequate for such purposes. And the adequate jumper cables are expensive, so then I found myself back to square one, lol. What I'll probably do is first measure how much length I'll need and consider having them custom built to specification. Warn sells two different lengths. If one of those lengths is near what I need, then I’ll probably go with Warn. If you shop around, you can find the Warn cables much cheaper than what I posted from their website. My XJ is primarily used for utilitarian purposes and the removable rear winch mount will be used more for work. I must say, it's certainly peace of mind knowing that it's there when I'm in the back country. For the purposes of off-roading only, I can understand the lack of need for a rear removable winch mount. I guess one could argue that it's cheap insurance. But from a work perspective, I've already found times when a rear removable winch mount would have come in handy.

Your reasoning makes sense. For sure you can make a rear set up with a RED (dig) connector and some welding cable cheaper than you can buy a Warn made one. Up to you on how much effort you want to put into it in the end. Hate to pay Warn's mark up although I have Warn winches on both of my 4x4's. I did use 2 gauge on the winch hook ups as that is the size on the winch QDC. Also know that red is generally 24 volt although we use see mostly gray SB175's on our industrial batteries. (forklift dealership) Sota needs two batteries cause he lives in a deep freeze half the year! Grew up there, know what it's like. Have a good one.
