I feel ya there. Heck if I had to drive the XJ everyday I would go nuts with 33s and stock gears. I would probably have a smaller set of dd wheels and tires.

So far, I’m averaging around 3,000 miles per year. Even though the XJ gets driven daily, my commute has been 2 miles round trip. I come home for lunch, so that makes it a total of 4 miles daily. We also take it to the property on the weekends, use it for hauling wood, etc. The ultimate goal is to run a 32” tire (no trimming), stock backspacing on a 7” rim, with either 4:10’s or 456's. By the time I get to that stage of life, the XJ will pretty much be a trail rig, utilitarian vehicle, and an occasional commuter.

I found a discount on the cherokeeforum for 25% off anything ordered online from advanced auto. spending more then $50 gives you free shipping too. wish i would have found it sooner to share the wealth with the rest of the forum but it was a today only deal. i pretty much bought a few trail spares and zj fan clutch to upgrade from the original one. Of course this isnt a complete list of trail spares. maybe ill make a new post with a list at some point.

Yeah, Auto Anything, 4 Wheel Parts, and several others are having big sales all the time. In general, I think businesses are having to offer BIG sales more frequently to generate sales.

Me too! I buy parts all the time because I find them for a good deal. I’ve had some parts laying around for a few years just waiting to be used, installed, or replaced. As a matter of fact, I just ordered a few more parts this weekend!

i havent been figuring my fuel mileage correctly. im getting 15 mpgs. 170k on 3.55 gears and 33" tires.

bedlining the whole thing this week and then ill be installing my snorkel. my buddy gained 1.5 mpgs when he added his snorkel, we shall see if one helps me also. i might start dd'ing the XJ, the KK only gets 1.5 mpgs better at this point.

Not bad! At this rate, you'll be up to 16-17 mpg before you know it. :pepper:

-1 mpg gallon for adding weight and minimizing the aerodynamics :goink:

I've heard others with similar results. It seems too good to be true, but?????????????? Let us know the outcome!

We leave the KJ for longer trips and put the hard miles on the XJ. They’re both equally fun to drive, but as you can see in my signature, we don’t drive the KJ very often. The Dodge Cummins on the other hand rarely gets driven, but when it does, it gets driven cross country.

I found a set of axles with lunchbox lockers, 4.56s and front chromoly shafts for an awesome price. I emailed the guy but he said someone was interested in the axles but wasnt entirely sure. Lets hope he cant afford them or changes his mind.

Finished bed lining the outside of my XJ with Desert Sand Monstaliner. Also installed the snorkel. I was gonna make my own but found a cheap knock off on ebay for $150. Lets just go with installing a custom one would have been easier. :x

Guess the XJ didn't like that I flushed the power steering fluid cause I've got a leak. Didnt really have much time to look but it's coming from the backside. I'll just replace it when I get back in April. I'm leaving for Vegas tomorrow morning. To be honest I would rather stay in Florida for Bass spawning but I can't say no to a paid vacation. :D

got back from my Vegas tdy a couple days ago. still havent fixed the leaking ps pump but its had a slight whine to it for a while so im gonna go ahead and just replace it, sooner or later.

im not getting the axles. the guy ended up selling the front. the rear needs a new pinion bearing so i would have to pay the same amount of labor since the gears would have to be reset. that and not knowing for certain how many miles he put on it with a bad bearing, he could have ruined the axle housing.

havent gotten a good mpg reading with the snorkel on because my last two fill ups have been with a kayak on the roof. although even with it up there i have managed at least .5 mpg increase.

Post subject:  Re: 93 XJ project "IRON MAIDEN"

ive been driving the cherokee lately to check mpg with the addition of the snorkel. my mpg went up one mpg to 16! not bad for the old pig.

on a less exciting note, i romped on the gas to pull out of a parking onto the highway and heard a pop. pulled over immediately and found that the little tab that holds the u joint inside the rear axle yoke broke off and the u joint started working its way out. i beat it back in with a hammer, tightened down the yoke strap and beat it down a little to help hold the cap. well i drove home about 15 miles with some vibs and a half mile from my house the u joint popped for good. while the driveshaft was banging around before i threw it in neutral to stop it from spinning it got wrapped up in the ebrake cables which apparently put a ton of strain on the tcase yoke because the output shaft housing cracked. i pulled the driveshaft, dropped it in 4wd and coasted the rest of the way home. breaking stuff is a good time to upgrade so i just ordered an advanced adapters sye.

Good choice, the Advanced Adapters SYE will be a nice upgrade. It's on my list of things to do, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I regret to say I have neglected the XJ for a while, almost a month and a half. However, today I'm starting my SYE install.

I would rather spend my time fishing but the winds are preventing me from taking the kayak out. :SOMBRERO:

I've neglected mine too. I have too many projects going on at the same time. Once you get the SYE installed and the right driveshaft, you will notice a much quieter ride with less vibration.

At least you're being productive with your time.
