I will be flat towing my XJ to the LJS (.Lost Jeep Safari.) this year.. This will be my first time towing an automatic equipped vehicle any distance at all.. What is the proper procedure.? Do I have to disconnect BOTH driveshafts.? .......or just the rear and leave the transfer case in 'N'.? Or.......? T I A |

Friend of mine that towed his said he just removed front and left x-fer case in Neutral. Not positive though. I bet an RV forum could tell you or find Andy on Naxja in So-cal section as he tows his. |

What is the proper procedure.? 1. Hook up the XJ to the tow vehicle. 2. Place transmission in NEUTRAL. 3. Place trasnfer case in NEUTRAL. (this effectively disconnects your driveshafts) 4. Shift transmission to PARK. (this stops the transmission from pumping fluid.) 5. Turn ignition key ONE CLICK counter-clockwise. Leave key in ignition. (This shuts off the vehicle while leaving the steering free to turn.) |
