My friend just picked up an xj 4x4 and he tells me he has about $1000 to spend on it. I've talked to him and he does not want a lift? So what are some good mods for a 99' xj.

IF he is going to wheel a stock height XJ, He better invest in some skids and rocker protection. After that, good tires and maybe a set of discos for front and remove rear sway bar. If he has anything left over add in a posi or locker. Look around on the various forums for used parts to get more for your money.

Head for JKS. T-case skid, supernerfs, and miniskids. You can get other Mfg's too if you like, but JKS is tried and true for XJ's (little bit of sticker shock - but worth it) (JKS is to XJ's that All-J's is to KJ's). Ask Andy S about the difference between his rockers and mine. And a CB. Wheeled with just that for a long time - Oh and 235's :)

Can you safely remove the rear sway bar and still have a kj roadworthy?

KJ OR XJ, Both can be driven safely w/ rear sway bar removed.

In fact, if you bought a factory Up Country Suspension, the factory removed the sway bar for you...

I'd get a banks torque tube header, as the stock exhaust manifolds are pron to crack.
