My buddies kid just bought a '96 XJ sport (two door). Looking for a good quality, relatively inexpensive 3" lift including shocks. Kid want to run 31s. What is the skinny?

Search around NAXJA for some used parts, they are always on there and usually pretty cheap.

I went with Rustys 3". I would recomend the HD 180lb front coils (got 3.5" lift front), and the full rear leafs. I got the rear aal but it only gave me 2.25" lift in the rear, so I had to get the 0.75" shackles to level it out. The shocks were seperate, but I ordered them with the lift.

I did have to get some new front swaybar links because the stock ones are just to short. I also got an adjustable trac bar too, to recenter the axle.

I just got a new set of 32x11.5R15's put on my 15x8 Ultras w/ 3.75" back space last week. They are tight, but with a little trimming in the front they are ok (as long as I keep the swaybar hooked up).

I think the perfect size for a 3" lift would be 31x10.5R15 on 15x7 w/ 4.0"BS or 15x8 w/ 4.75"BS.

My 15x8's w/ 3.75"BS are a little wide.

check out my cardomain pages in signature.

You can actully get a set of v8 ZJ coils and lower controll arms dirt cheap. That will give you 3"s and then either s10 or dodge dakota leaf packs. mix and match the leaf packs for desired hight. I bet you could do this for under $100. Then all you need is set of 4 good shocks . No more than $100. And your good to go....
