Just received consumer reports latest issue, which covers FJ, Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, BMW X3, rdx and a few others.

wrangler got aweful ratings, and liberty was ruled as third pick off-road well over wrangler.

order of sport suvs
rav4, x3, murano sl, RDX, fx35, cx-7

as for offroad
nissan xterra s, kia sorento lx and liberty sport
12th place goes to wrangler unlimited..

CR is all about advertising if you pay them enough they will print anything

I have noticed that over the years they seem to hate the wrangler and always rate others higher
also there test are scewed to favor the vehical that takes the top in that catogory not on over all prefomance

You can trust the competency of CR to know what works off road, or you can listen to this guy: http://jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309507 I bet the guy from CR never drove Cliffhanger but I have fond memories of following the other person up that trail.

According to the chart they posted, JK performed poorly under all other tests and in comparison it was far inferior on all aspects. Not only off-road.
Although it might do very well off-road, when daily driving is considered, it might not be up to performance of others. The stopping distance, cost to drive/maintain, rpg, panic handling, noise, visibility, access etc had all their part in comparison.

I am not sure if CR is really biased against certain models. They scored 06 wranglers pretty good actually, other than body integrity and used car value, it did very good to excellent as far as reliability is concerned.

D.C. (Mercedes) is suing CR over the poor write up they got.

What's disturbing to me is that a they say a Kia performed better?

Ah, come on guys! CR hasn't a clue what it means to off road. Go buy a Kia, bolt on a suspension lift (like such things exist), larger tires and do this.

The usual car buying media never likes the Wrangler. Their always focusing on how nice the ride is for taking the kids out for ice cream. That's not what we buy Jeeps for...

Yeah and they were testing the Sahara to.....which does surprise me for on road manners.....but off road the Sahara is no better than the X model....what they should have tested was the Rubicon Unlimited....watch their minds change real quick.

And of course....as above....car critics don't care about offroad performance....because its not the popular use of the vehicle.....either way....I've ordered my Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon.....and in fact it awaits my pickup on Monday morning.

Well, premature congradulations, Zeero, on your new Jeep. We're going to add a JK to our stable (KJ and WJ) soon. I have the mods planned. 3 inch lift with 34 or 35 inch tires. New front and rear bumpers. After all I need to mount my winch and the oversized spare somewhere. Sliders/step rails because of rocks and a height challenged wife. I just hope it wheels as good as my KJ. :-)r
