I bought a '05 Rubicon LJ about a month ago and am looking at getting a different rear bumper with a 2" reciever built in. so I can pull a single axle trailer with the wheeler on it and other light towing. But I want to eventually get a small camper trailer or pop up.Anything I should specifically look for? I have been looking at the warn rear bumper and some others that are similar. Anyone have any experience with anything like this?

i like the shrockworks: http://www.shrockworks.com/Jeep-Tire-Carrier-Rear-Bumper-Jeep-Spare-Tire-rack-Swing-Away-pr-16201.html

also like the hanson: http://www.hansonoffroad.com/tj-lj9706-wranglerrubicon-rear-bumpers-and-cargo-systems-c-21_24.html?osCsid=e33ab2601e4aaf7dfd16837de763171e

both are a little pricey but im almost positive they are some of the best available, quality and looks

I built my own. Cost was 65 bucks for the steel and how ever much my time was worth.

I second the vote for the Shrockworks bumper. It is on my short list of possible bumpers. Another possibility is Fab Fours http://www.fabfours.com/Jeep%20Rear%20Bumpers%201997%20-%202006%20Jeep%20YJ%20TJ%20LJ%20Rear%20Bumper%20with%20Tire%20Carrier%20Y1050 It is a little pricey but has the coverage and sturdiness I'm looking for. A local shop is a dealer for them and I've seen them in person. They are stout. One thing to keep in mind though is that even though they have the receiver hitch built in, they are technically not rated for towing. It would cost the manufacturer way to much to have them tested and take out the liability insurance needed to claim them as rated for towing. But if you do plan to tow with a bumper rather than a separate hitch, make sure you get one with frame tie in brackets (or add other aftermarket ones). Otherwise the bumper only mounts to the rear crossmember and could tweak the frame under load. Also remember that a SWB TJ is only rated to tow 2000 pounds. I've read horror stories of guys trying to tow more and it was very difficult to control the load because of the short wheelbase. I've got an Unlimited so my tow rating is 3500 pounds. Hope this helps.

I've got a LJ and have towed a 3500# trailer with it. I had a custom reciever buit to handle the weight distributing hitch (check out equal-i-zer if you ever need one). Most everything only mounts into that last few inches of the frame, and did not seem strong enough to me. The AllJ rear bumper was an exception, although it still seemed light for what I wanted. The good news about AllJ is that Heather & Quinn will fab up a change if you want it. I couldn't wait for the 2 months, but they were willing to increase the attach points up the fame a foot to give the weight distributing hitch the leverage it needed. Other than AllJ, I'd call THKFab here in Ohio and have Terry make me just what I wanted from his standard bumper design, if he felt my application needed any mods.

So, AllJ or THKFab would be my choice.

I know about the liability issue being why they are not tow rated but I figured if you can use it as a recovery point one should suffice for what I wanted. I was looking at the warn or the pro comp bumper off of 4wd.com. Would I be just as well off getting a hidden hitch or reese? I don't really see myself needing something that heavy though. So what do you guys think of the bumpers mentioned?
