A buddy of mine has an 01' Wrangler 4cyl. that keeps losing anti-freeze and cant seem to find the leak. He's pressure tested it and basically checked whatever he could without tearing the motor apart and cant seem to find the problem anywhere. It's not smoking at all and he recently changed his oil and there were no signs of anti freeze in the oil, so he's kind of stumped. any help would be appreciated..............

I don't know if it applies to the 4cyl, but I have read that the early years of the 6cyl were prone to the upper part of the radiator cracking and causing a loss of fluid.

ya that was one of the first things we checked and the radiator seems fine we also checked the plug on the bottom and that seemed fine also. none of the hoses were cracked or leaking either. He's basically narrowed it down to the headgasket but if he doesnt have to replace the headgasket he doesnt want to spend the dough on it. So I figured I'd see if anyone here may have had the same problem

Check the oil to make sure it's not milky...

doesn't really sound good

but.. perhaps the economy is so bad we need to get hoodlocks instead of gas caps. People are stealing antifreeze now!

he could have a hole in the head gasket allowing it to leak in to the cylinder and burn up. I would test the coolant for exhaust gases to confirm/deny this

Have you pressure tested it warm(not hot) and full of coolant? I have had problems finding coolant leaks by pressure testing before without the system full of coolant.
