an auto in the same vehicle would be even worse, with a manual you less power loss than with an auto plus there's a thing called feathering the clutch.....

...and to those that say they're weaker must've never took them in watery mud. a manual you can submerse and still make it home, do that with an auto

Who wants a Wrangler anyway? To easy to build a wrangler,my 12 year old sister can build a mean TJ,it takes some skill to build a bada$$ KJ  .

that makes about as much sense as the people who built fords cause it's harder to get more power then in a chevy..........it's called common sense, if you're wheeling, use whats made for it........if you're getting groceries then use a libby

I guess all of you that has said an auto is the way to go has never wheeled a Rubicon. In low and first the crawl is so slow you can get out and walk faster than it will move. With the right combo of gears and transfer a stick will outperform an auto.

I have wheeled EVERY jeep in the '06 and '07 line up with 4wd low
so I have wheeled both
I have also wheeled almost every off road park from Gillmer TX to Murphy NC and did it in an outo
because I feel that the auto is better
this topic is like the ford VS chevy topic it will never die

lol, thats kinda funny except I've never seen where a libby would make it and a wrangler wouldn't but..........I can tell if you say fords are better then chevys and libbys are better than wranglers, I don't think we'd ever agree on anything so I'm just gonna let this die now 8)

Automatic? Stick? Who really cares? Wheel what you bring. That's the LOST motto.

Having both kinds to wheel I'd sure prefer the auto with the 231 in the KJ. Goes most places with ease. But my TJ with the 4:56 and Teralow I can't see using it in an automatic. In 1st gear-compound low it wheels just like an automatic. When you stop by clutching you don't much have to worry about friction points. Just pop the clutch. If you stall or have the engine off you start it with clutch out and let the starter get you rolling. As for a jumpy pedal most of the time you are off the gas and those rare times when you need to gas it you hold your shoe against the tunnel and gently rock it to feather the throttle. Take very little practice to master. Bottom line very little clutching needed.

Boy you must have lots of time, lots of friends, or work for a dealership...so youve wheeled every 4low model with both stick and auto (if it offers both)????

I admittedly have a real heavy lead foot, I'm real hard on clutches comes from my younger days with big muscle cars. Any way I'm realistic enough to know that if I have a clutch I'll chew that puppy up in a very short period of time.l So I go automatic with synthetic Amsoil to cover my abuse. :) :P

yeah
We hold the Off-Roaders Expo at a Jeep Dealership
they let us "demo what the jeeps can do across the board"
we also had to teach the sales staff how to drive them on the Test track so they could take customers for a test ride on the track

I drove into a hole that buried the front of the Jeep up to the windsheild (anyone that was at Camp Jeep knows the hole) and drove out. I have also had it submerged over the wheels in clean water and with over 40k on it there has been no clutch problems. But I have also had my Libby submerged with no problem.

ok, I see where you're coming from on that but it is easier to get power to the ground with a manual, more of a direct drive. And I'm just saying this for stock manuals and stock autos, most people don't even touch their trannys....
