I just recieved my Rusty's engine/transmission skid. It covers the engine oil pan all the way back to the belly transfer case skid. I have an automatic transmission and there is already a small piece of metal covering it. It looks like it might even be welded to the crossmember holding it in the front. It doesn't appear as though the crossmember is holding anything else up. To install this skid, do I remove the entire crossmember, or would the new skidplate fit above or below it somehow?

If you are talking about the TJ you remove the small skid under the transmission and it is replaced by the new engine skid.
