Post subject:  Awkward noise

My g-friend is a proud owner of a 2000 TJ. Yesterday I noticed the engine area had a weird noise. It only happens when the vehicle is a stop sign, at a light, ect. But not when the vehicle is running. It sounds like a loose heat shield but I can’t find anything loose. I thought it was one of the pulleys going out on it. But I tried the “tons of WD-40” to see if it quiet the noise at lease temporarily but no help. I’m trying to play the hero, not to mention I normally do all the work that she needs on it. Can anyone help me here? :?:

Check over the belt and all the pullies. Can you get a better description of the sound?

I have a sound that happens in similar situations (whenever the brake is applied and the Jeep is at a full stop). The sound seems to come from behind the center AC vents area. I've never figured it out but never really spent any time looking.

we have a rattle that we only get when we are in first or second gear, driving slow, like from a dead stop, parking space, etc. i know it just has do to with the vibration of the car at that gear/speed. i believe the sound comes from right under the passenger seat on the underside of the car but since nothing has fallen off in a year + i'm not that worried.

tell her to turn up the radio :)

I know it's not the belt or any of the pulleys. The sound sounds like a rattle, something like a loose heat shield hanging from a bolt. Like the above posts it happens when the vehicle is in the idle mode (park, natural, brake applied, ect…) The TJ works fine it's just that rattling noise that I don't want it to get worst and end up with a huge bill.

Is it manual or auto tranny? I'm assuming it's auto since you mentioned the work "park," but I wanted to ask just in case. I had a manual tranny that made the same kinda noise when sitting idle (clutch depressed). Replaced the clutch and it went away.
