With the 5.5" lift the nose of the rear diff is way above the fill plug. That means the diff's nose is not getting bathed in oil but rather just splashed.

Can anyone recommend a diff cover for a D44 with a higher fill plug that stock?

Get the SOLID one. Northridge 4x4 looks to have the best price if Heather can't take care of you.

Those are good covers,the guy that owns the company was once part owners of Crane,getting one of those D44 covers for my SFA swap(also located in CO,a very big+++++++).Just got some HP44 Crane high steer knuckles from the guy(Tim),very nice guy.

Yep, Solid used to be Rockcrusher (well sort of). The Rockcrushers are still made though (in Australia). The people at Solid were the American distributor for them. They had some kind of disagreement and split. They took the design and changed the part where the logo is and voila, you have the Solid brand diff cover. I have a set of the real Rockcrusher covers for mine. The install for the front was fairly easy but the 44 rear was a bit of a pain. The tolerances for the bolt holes leave no room for error and it took some wiggling to get them all lined up. Also, the bolts they sent with them aren't the flanged head like the factory one. And with the design of the cover you can't get a socket wrench on them to properly tighten them down. You end up using an open end wrench on them so you can't get a proper torque on them. I ended up with a bit of a leak around two of the lower left bolts. I replaced them with the original factory bolts so I could tighten them more (new bolts are slightly longer though-1/4 in I think). I will replace all the bolts as soon as I can find ten of them in the hardware store (they only have two but their computer says 30 so it won't auto order more until the inventory number drops low enough). Also there was a slow leak on the drain plug. I tried tightening it more and it's worked so far (didn't want to strip the threads). Some people have suggested using teflon tape on the drain plug to prevent leaks. Other than the slight fitment issues, I am otherwise happy with my purchase.
