31 X 10.5
on OE wheels as far as I know
do a BB and 32 X 11.5 is easy

I have a used 2.5" body lift I'll sell. $50 plus shipping.

Yikes, not to kill Matt's sale, but stay away from a body lift that big. Those are not a good thing, hence why Matt took his off.

If you were to go with the JKS 1.25" Body Lift, you could easily fit 32s. Your other corse of action could be something like a Rubicon Express Budget Boost which are very cheap and can allow up to 33 inch tires with proper bump stops an/or a small body lift like the JKS.

Nope the reason I took the BL off was to replace it with an RE long arm kit. It wasn't the BL that was a pain, it was the 3" short arm lift it had under it. With the short arm--any short arm--you're messing with the geometries in such a way as to compromise the road manners of the TJ.

That 3" BL shown above doesn't cause any suspension problems. But you'd need to make a plate to link the tcase to the shift lever and also to extend the gas tank fill hose.

So with this 3" BL and the 3" short arm I got 6" and was able to stuff 35.12.5 under it.

Still have the short arm lift BTW

Well I'm trying to research all the different kind of lifts I could use. I would rather use something that is easy to install and that I wont have to replace/lengthen everything. I'm not a mechanic so someone would have to do the work for me and if I buy a used 06 or 05 I wont have a lot of cash left over to pay someone to do everything.

Dont take this the wrong way but my wife could do a Budget Boost on a TJ
they are about as easy as a lift can be
step 1
jack up front and support at frame on jack stands
step 2
remove wheels
step 3
jack up axel to take weight off the shocks and remove shocks
step 4
lower axel till springs fall out BE CAREFUL NOT TO PULL BREAK LINES OUT
step 5
install spacers and springs then do steps 4-1 and repeat for rear

There is a little more detail to it but it realy is that easy
I have pulled the springs off of TJ's in my driveway more times than I can count
I can do it now in less than 2 hours
also a BB is easier than doing a body lift

One of these days I'm actually going to make up my mind on what I'm going to buy. I found an ad in the paper that I'm pursuing and also got a call from the dealer, here are my CURRENT two options:

(DEALER) 06 Wrangler X - Standard, 6,XXX miles, American Racing Rims, aftermarket AT tires (forgot the brand), soft top...Apparently it use to be a promo car used by sales reps or something. Listed at $18,950, willing to sell for $17,000 out the door (still working the price + will have trade in).

(PRIVATE PARTY) 97 Wrangler SE - Auto, 4cyl, 85,XXX miles, 30x9 BFG Mud Terrains (2,000 miles on them), lifted (also on 2,000 miles), new radiator/brakes, full skids, clean title, very clean Jeep (no rust or dents) - $7,000 (still working on price).


I'm almost leaning towards the 97 if I can get the price down a little. I think I can add 32's to it once the BFG's wear out, seems to be in good shape, drives nice and would be better to spend less if it's going to be a DD and offroad car. Not sure I want to add another car payment for the 06 and I dont know if I would offroad and not be worried about banging it up if I'm still paying on it.

Any thoughts?

4 banger + auto = DOG stay away
I have a 6 with an auto and even with 3.73's and 30's I feel it needs more gear
the 4 auto came with 4.10's so that helps some but but still a dog
Go with the '06 if it is a 6 cyl you will be much happier

Well the 97 4 banger is out, now working deals with the 06 and a few others I checked out over the weekend.

I will get the 6, not sure if I want standard or not. Would prefer auto even though they are kind of rare. Are they that bad even with a 6cl?

I will keep you updated and I'm sure I will have questions, hopefully I wont drive anyone nuts. Looks like I'm going to wind up with one, it's just a question of when. Want to take my time and get what I really want and not settle since this will probably be it for a while for cars (for me at least).

autos are fine with the 6 but you still need lower gears as in if it has 3.73's then no bigger than 31's 3.55's then no bigger than 30's
I think that they made a version with a 3.07 rear end DO NOT buy this one
and if you get an auto go for the 3 speed tf999 wich I think they stoped after '02
the '03 and newer came with a 4 speed and they do not make a good trail trans ,they dont seem to last

So if going auto - 2002 only, if going standard all years with the 6cyl?
