To all jk owners what are the likes and dislikes of new jeep. Examples of both unlimited and regular wrangler.

I dont own one but I have heard a few owners complain about the seats, meaning they dont tumble like the TJ.

The issue of the seats that 05kjrenny mentions is with the two door versions. This might have been changed for 2008 models but I'm not sure.

Just some of what I like about my 4 door Wrangler -

Lots of space for people and cargo
Freedom top. I have the front panels off frequently.
My "X" has auto, Dana 44 rear, 4.10 gears, 32" tires.
Ride is very smooth and handles really well.
MPG has been surprisingly good - better than my KJ as measured by the trip computers in both vehicles.

Minor disklikes -

Freedom top paint chips off easily if you are careless in handling.
It is a Jeep with lots of options for modding - Just Empty Every Pocket.

In my opinion (and I've seen this comment elsewhere), this is the best Jeep ever.
The Unlimited has the cargo capacity I need combined with exceptional off-road capability.

I have a simple question:

When comparing a Wrangler, regardless of used, brand new, old generation or new.. What would you say is the biggest downside of a wrangler, when compared to other vehicles. Is it the comfort? speed? Handling on highway? My wife really wants one, and I have been thinking that she should get something a bit more comfortable and easier to handle than a wrangler with its squeks and quaks, since she wont even take it off road.

Oh and drafts in the winter? :)

This is my first Wrangler, so I can only compare it to my former XJ and KJ.

The JK with wider wheelbase handles great on road and feels really solid. It doesn't squeak or rattle much (yet).
The SFA is a little rougher than the IFS in the KJ. I find the seats comfortable even on 5 hour road trips.

Why are you hesitant about getting your wife a Wrangler? Afraid she'll enjoy driving around topless?

That and mpg. :( And as I said the little quirks..
Again, doesn't it get extremely cold in the winter with soft-top?

My Unlimited is getting better MPG than my Liberty did.

I have the hard top (Freedom Top) so I can't say how how well it insulates in winter. It gets hot in the Summer sitting in the sun. Hard top deters break-ins also.

If MPG is a concern, how about a Patriot?

I showed patriot to her yesterday, she didn't like it. She said "yeah, OK, where are the wranglers.." so I had her sit in a wranger and and unlimited. She said unlimited was huge (it had mabs + m/ts). So, it looks like we would probably invest 5-6k on a used wrangler, with soft top.

I thought it was interesting to see the doors held up by straps instead of hinges on the inside. :)

Make sure you keep the straps on or the doors could come off!

Aren't they held by two bolts on the outside? Inside straps just hold them so it doesn't bang against body..
weird stuff, man.. :D

One other thing I like about my JK is the fact that the AC is very powerful..... It cools down the driver & pass very quick - I cannot say anything about the rear seats as I have never ridden there - and I never will!! :)

Heater is also pretty powerful.... it heats up pretty fast.

And last.... after being an owner of 2 KJs, this is my best purchase yet.!

It still has metal hinges. The straps are to keep the door from swinging open too far and for the JK it holds the wiring for the power windows and locks. To take the doors off, you just have to take off one nut on each hinge, disconnect the strap and lift off.

They door nuts are nicer than the TJ, you dont have to chip all the paint off to get them off.

biggest problem is figuring out what to get from the factory , because they load them up with doo doo you do not need. unfortantly the dealers do not have any. so if you want one you either have to special order 4 to 8 weeks  . what options do you have pirell3?

I have owned both YJ and a TJ
I have driven both a 2 door and a 4 door JK
here is what I think/know

YJ =dont even bother she will not drive it rough rattles squeeks knocks bangs drafts cold and hot
TJ =Very good choice good ride good highway manners I wheel the crap out of mine and no squeeks knocks or bangs after 3 years
it is lifted running 31X11.5 super swampers and it still rides better than a YJ
2 door JK =even better on road than my TJ does very well on a "test track" in stock form in fact better than most lifted TJ's running 33's
4 door JK = best highway ride but not so good off road you need to run 35's to follow a 2 door stock rubi TJ

IMO get a TJ unlimited if you can find one if not go for a 2 door JK

My JK originally was from a dealer in Maryland. My local dealer has 3 2007 JKs in stock.

a 13mm took mine right off w/o chips. and i've fabed up a sweet mirror relocation bracker - more on that in another thread soon.

as for the jk, my wife rented one for camp jeep - 2 door. i hated the hardtop (couldn't see s#!+) and the rear access. i wouldn't own one. i do own a 2 door TJ (a.k.a. LJ) and like it. Room for me in the back seat and my two labs can squeeze in the back for an hour or two.... Oh, and no ESP!

Post subject:  My likes/dislikes of the jk..

I like the bigger wheel base, but that's about it..

Too much plastic up front, no more metal fenders like the tj/yj/cj..

The grille looks like the Liberty Renegade..

And i've read the engine is underpowered..

I'm sure over time they will grow on me.. I rather have my TJ though over any JK.

Seems jeep is losing alot of the jeep heritage it started.. but then again, the new 08 Liberty is gawd awful ugly to me too.

I don't like change.. lol..
but those are my opinions.. opinions are like a-holes..everyone has one/them.
