Naw just a very fast left one 8) There are always differin opinions on whether or not the auto is better than a manual tranny...I guess I just prefer old school stick  I feel like I have more feel and control of the jeep, on and offroad IMHO

In any form a auto offroad is better, more control and yes easier.Leave the stick for the highway.Plus you can make a auto handle alot more power than a stick anyday.

Here we go...so why is auto in ANY FORM better than stick offroad?? And dont say cause its easier, cause thats just being lazy IMHO...

You have more control and a smoother transfer of engine torque which is easier on the driveline, unlike a stick in which most of the time you are banging it in gear or a little to heavy on the gas when releasing the clucth which "shocks" the driveline which will lead to more breakage. And like I stated already a auto can be built to handle more power than a stick.Granted most sticks have a better crawl ratio but have major short comings in the strength and easy of operation on the rocky terrian. Is it being lazy? No,just being smart and having less of a chance of breaking parts(not that you can't break parts with a auto to).

K I guess we'll agree to disagree  8) Long as we both wheel, we're all good  I do disagree with the more "control" you say, whatdya mean by control casue I tend to think being able to select my gears would be much more controllin than havin an auto with D, 1, and 2

The only way I can see a stick being nearly as good as an auto is if you are geared super low...like so low that you couldnt possibly stall your rig at an idle even on the steepest incline it can handle. Because there is that situation when you are crawling along uphill or up something and all of a sudden a spotter yells WHOA STOP! The best case is you already have one foot on the clutch and the other on the brake and can do so. (low crawl ratio make this possible) Worst is you are feathering the clutch and fiddling with the gas and you have to mash the clutch in and in the same amount of time get your right foot off the gas and on the brake. Get it wrong and you might just roll back a bit....or you could slip off an obstacle and roll OVER. So an auto is better because you can have one foot on the go pedal and one foot on the stop pedal at all times.

Ok Im not going to say which is better but I was wondering when I have my Stick in 1st gear/4low it will almost creep down the steepest incline as slow as it will go up it. Will it do that in the auto also?I also have a 06 RUBICON.
I never been in a rubi with auto to compare, but in 4low/1st gear it will crawl slooooooow. Does the auto do the same thing?

I went from my 6spd KJ to an 4spd auto LJ, and I have to say it is easier in the auto, but I feel like I've lost a lot of control and definatly the creeper gear...

thats what I was thinking, unless you suck at a clutch, it's the way to go plus a way better crawl......... and control :D

i've also noticed alot of autos are the kj'rs not wranglers, coincidence?!?

Agreed 8) Wheelin a stick aint hard at all and I wont stall on even some of the steepest inclines with the Rubi

in the many years that I have been out on the trails and of all the broken u-joints and snaped axel shafts on all different types of rigs
the one thing that 99% of them all had in common was a stick shift
I have seen TJ's running stock 3.73 gears with 33" tires open as church on a Dana 35 do all kinds of stupid stuff with an auto
but the same set up with a stick is like death for that 35

as far as control and crawl the auto with the right gears can do that as well
my tf999 ,3 speed TJ auto, when put in first will hold a hill just as good as any stick
I can go slow to a very smoth stop then turn and start again and never knock or bang the drive line
you CAN NOT do that in a stick even with a hand throtle
the auto is also way more fun to climb up stuff that is way to big for your rig to play on

all my .02

I guess all of you that has said an auto is the way to go has never wheeled a Rubicon. In low and first the crawl is so slow you can get out and walk faster than it will move. I can also just let out on the clutch and let it do its thing. I have wheeled my Jeep pretty hard for the past year and a half and has never had it stall. With the right combo of gears and transfer a stick will outperform an auto.

Anyone who has driven a manual that is not geared low enough has gotta admit that it can royally suck though. Especially in something like a samurai with oversize tires and stock gears. That little motor just dont have the grunt to pull it.

I guess I shoulda clarified before I posted sayin a manual was better than an auto. What I meant was a properly equipped manual with low range gears and a low range t-case is MUCH better than wheelin with an auto...even a Rubi auto dont wheel as well as a manual Rubi, just MHO guys, but Ive wheeled both and the stick was MUCH easier and MUCH more effective on the rocks 8)

But the stick is alot weaker then a auto,as far as crawl ratio's go you can get better one's with a auto trans just from the torque mulitplication given by some TC's.It's personal preference but a auto tranny is more forgiving on the drive train.I have driven both to and prefer the auto trannies, gotta lot of things going on when offroading and having to use a 3rd peddle is just a annoyence more then anything. Now towing down the road or racing I would rather have a stick but for the rocks give me that auto for the better control and smoother transfer of torque.
