Post subject:  Picking Shock Length

My CJ has 2" shackles and a 4" leaf spring lift.
I need new shocks.
Whats the best way to determine what size shocks I need?

with the Jeep on level ground
measure the opening at the bump stop
this is your up travel
measure from shock mount to shock mount and subtract the up travel
this is the shocks fully closed length
subtract 1" and this is the closed length shock you will need
open length is not an issue

double check my math here...

From bump stop to frame -> 8" on the driver side, 8.25 on the passenger side
from shock mount to shock mount -> 22.75" on drivers side, 22.5" on passenger side

fully closed....
driver side -> 14.75"
passenger side -> 14.25"

Using the 14.25" as my minimum distance, the closed length I'd need is 13.25"

Shocks I'm fidning that start at a closed length of 13.25" have an eyelet on bottom and a stud on top...
This is the closest I saw with duel eyelets...

Quote:
Extended Length (in): 21.750 in.
Collapsed Length (in): 13.870 in.
Upper Mount: Eyelet
Lower Mount: Eyelet

or would it be better to get one with a smaller closed length?

Extended Length (in): 18.125 in.

Lower Mount: Eyelet

did I miss something on the math?
