what's needed to swap 4 cyl. out for 6 cyl.? are any parts interchangable? I mean other than the obvious parts like the motors themselves.

would like to do 6cyl swap and swap auto to manual but if we cant find a tranny and motor deal then we'll do the motor now and tranny later when we can find one but we're in a bind cause we need to get the jeep up and running for now so that is why we were wondering if we can just swap motors for now................all the info so far is helpful and appreciated

Are you dead set on the 4.0 or would the 4.2 also work? The AX15 is a 5spd manual trans that will bolt up to both engines and your t-case.

better yet - take the 4.0 block - add the 4.2 crank - end up with a 4.6 Stroker

It would be easier and half the cost to buy a new 4 banger, an Avenger Supercharger Kit, and a few lap dances than do a 4 - 6 cylinder swap.

To start the list you would need to cut and weld in the new motor mounts. The entire long block. New radiator, hoses, etc. New PDC, PCM/BCM and/or OBDII (depending on year of the donor engine), CPS, PN/PS, VSS and O2 Sensors. Fuel pump, regulator, and Lines. darn near an entire wire harness too. These are the major items, there may be additional issues. Plus it may be illegal depending on where you live.

From what I've read on other boards, it's usually not worth it to swap the I-6 in place of the 4banger. Most people that pull the 4 out, usually replace it with a small block v-8. Chevy engines are most common, a few have done Fords and of course you could always go with a Hemi conversion. If you want the Chevy, Advance Adapters has most of what you'll need for the swap. And Burnsville Off-road can probably help with a Hemi swap.

friends 02 wrangler has the same trans case that I have in my 03 kj, with the ax15 5 speed and the 4.0

but like chefdab said, you'd prob be better off with a ford or chevy sb v8

can still go the straight drive route if you want too

the NV3550 will also work for your straight drive with chevy v8's and the np231 trans case and so will the T18 but that's a 4 speed (i like 4-speeds :D )
