I've been googling to find info on whether or not the Wrangler will get a diesel in 2010 or 2011 without much luck. Anyone on the forum have any info?

You can order a J8 military JK from AEV. More than likely under Obama's new laws they Wrangler well receive a Diesel. Probably either the 3.0 CRD or the cummins new 4.2L diesel.

If I had around 50 grand I would buy the J8. Unfortunately I don't have that problem.

They have been calling for the diesel's in the Jk since they came out. First in '07 we would have them in '08, then in '08 it would be by mid year. Then in '09, now I have been hearing rumors of '10 or '11... Personally I doubt it unless there is a miraculous change with our government, or the yahoo's realize that these aren't the same diesel engines of the 70's...

You can not buy a diesel J8 from AEV. You can order a J8 rolling body from AEV and a VM CRD diesel engine from AEV pay another shop to install it, and then register it as an offroad only vehicle (a few states excluded). IIRC all 120 J8's have already been spoken for even if you had the bank roll.

I thought that AEV did all the installation on the new J8's. AEV should be the ones doing all the installing on it since they are the only ones who got the contract for it.

The contract specifically states that AEV can not install the engine.

AEV Website wrote:
These vehicles are sold as component chassis only, meaning that they are delivered completely assembled with everything but the engine and transmission installed. They must be completed by the end customer who must install or contract an independent shop to install the engine and transmission (bolt in, plug in, hook up hoses) and register the vehicle as a component vehicle with a state assigned VIN number.

Couple of reasons... That way it can't be sold as a new car. With the AEV there is NO warranty. And if you noticed there is no Jeep badging anywhere on the J8. Chrysler didn't want to release the J8 to the public in the first case, AEV convinced them but under the stipulation that it would not be affiliated with Chrysler at all.

The way AEV is doing it is the only way to do it without submitting the J8 to expensive collision & emissions testing. It is basically a kit car.

It need not be "off road only." Depending on your state's rules on homebuilt/kit cars & the drivetrain you chose, these type of cars can be road legal.

They sell them in Europe so I don't see why they can't here.

It must be the darn North American emission regulations

It's the emissions on the CRD for the JK, and they don't sell the J8 in Europe, just a regular JK.

I see CRD wranglers on the street here in Michigan all the time. Here is a picture I snapped with my cell phone on Woodward Avenue.

The bad news is these are Chrysler engineering vehicles. I got really excited when I saw them the first time.

If they are testing them there then would it not be logical to assume they will be going into production in the near future? So maybe there is still a reason to get excited.

Nope, they have been in their test fleet since '06.
