I purchased a 94 YJ which is currently stock. I am going to start looking at getting a lift for it soon. Wondering what brand/size lift you guys with YJ's have and like?

I also wanted to find out if there is any difference in additional modifications that are needed between a 2.5 inch and 4 inch lift (SYE, etc.)

This will be my DD but I would like to eventually put some 32's or 33's under it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree RE is good they only make lifts for jeep. So you know it's made right. Would not use RE shocks, bilstein or rancho are better.

For 32's you are looking at 3.5 - 4" lift, for 33's you'll need at least a 4" (maybe a 1" BL). Depending on the actual tire height.

Anything 3" and over you will need a SYE especially if it is a DD. You'll also have to drop the Transfer case, most kits include the bracket. You'll also want to make sure that it has panhard bar brackets, or a new adjustable panhard bar included. At about 4" you my need a new pitman arm for your steering geometry too.

So that knocks out OME($1000 for HD) unless you want to do a 2-3" BL with the emu springs. Rubicon Express is a quality kit that works well with the YJ's and TJ's (JK's there are problems) so that is an option for about $1200 (and they do make kits for Fords besides Jeeps). A SOA can be a good alternative for about 5" of lift, but you want to make sure that you know what you are doing or have a good shop do it so it doesn't screw up your geometry. Other Companies that you may want to consider, Fabtec ($800 for the full 3.5 kit), and Tuff Country ($850 for 3.5").

Personally I would do a SOA with new panhard bars and hi steer kit. Then you would have plent of room for 33's. Heck you can fit 35's really, and in the future it gives you plenty of further options to run up to 40's (when it is no longer a DD).

Does the soa hut your on road ride alot if its a dd? Or is it not enough to worry about? Or if you get it done right would you even notice the diff?

Not really a big difference IMO, bump steer increases a bit, but not to bad.

I would recommend OME or Rusty's. I had a rustys on the KJ, one on the CJ, and have an OME on my JK.

I run OME on my KJ and JK, love theem. But, it will barely give him enough lift to 31's let alone 33's. He'll have to do a body lift or cut the heck out oh his sheet metal to run the tire size he wants...

Thats interesting. I ran 285/75/16 (32.9s) on my 07 4d JK pre lift, with no problems. I dont recall what my back spacing is though..

Is he running 16" or 17" rims ? that would prob make up the difference.

I know all jeeps respond to the lifts differently

All them YJs running around and no one with one has an opinion on this!!! It's not that bad to be running a Yj, is it? I kind of like them a little bit. But I think stick to my TJ.

I am running the 3.5 " Black Diamond lift (heavy duty)
I like it.
It was complete and rides nice.
