Post subject:  engine temp question

i run a sbc in my wrangler. the temp stays between 180 to 190 degrees. But at crawl speeds it runs at 220 deg. The fans do not come on until around 230 degrees. i use a probe thermostat to start the fans. does that probe have to be really tight to get an accurate reading? i thought it would come on sooner.

What about some kind of bypass switch so you could turn it on when you want but still have use of t stat? Or you can find a stat with a lower set point to come on.

I like the idea of coming on automatically. I was thinking of buying a thermostat for the engine block, but i need to find some spots. The set up I have now is perfect except I dont like it going to 230 deg. It is possible the thermostat is not tight enough as a result is getting a false reading?

40d to 50d over norm is a bit high. If the one is comming on at 230 every time that is probably the set point. How do you have it mounted on there? And you should be able to find the same type that will kick on at 180 or 190.

well i found out today that it should come on at 185 deg. so i am thinking i need to reset it. i need to set so it is more snug then it should read more accurately. if this does not work i will be looking at other options.
