Post subject:  new aussie locker

got an aussie locker installed in the front d30
on the wifes lj saturday morning. kind of felt
strange throwing away the spider gears LOL

anyway, its a very easy install and it went in
flawlessly. new gear oil and gasket as well.

no leaks so far - 4lo works and there are no odd
sounds other than the faint clicking sound when
in 2wd during turns which we'll get used to.

taking it out on the trail sunday to see how it
fuctions over the open diff. it should be a night
and day difference !

Herd they take a little getting use to in the front. I was told on loose terrain making turn is a little different at times it it don't let free, same as back in 2wd. It wants to push you straight. About how long did it take to get it in?

as soon as i get it offroad ill post up what i think about
them. we did put it in 4lo on my resedential street to
make sure everything checked out and i did immediately
notice the on center feel of the steering. i mean when
you turn left or right, the wheel wants to come back center
right away and you do have to keep some pressure on
the wheel to keep it in the desired direction.

it took about 2hrs to put it in. hardets part was getting
the carrier out of the pumkin. once you do that its a
matter of removing the spider gears and putting the
locker in . super duper easy.

I'm in the process of putting on front and rear d44 with detroit lockers with 4.88s in front and rear. We ride in loose sand with lots of turns all the time. i'll post how our setup works out.

well, took the jeep out to hidden falls yesterday with
the centex offroad guys and lemme tell ya its a night
and day difference with the front locker. there were
three points that i had to either try multiple times to
get up or i had to be yanked up. the lj walked right up
all of the difficult spots. i will start advising that any
kind of locker should be the 1st mod you make to a
jeep.

i did get a flat tire on the trail - sheared the threaded
part of the vave stem right off on a rock. never saw
that happen before.

I feel the same Detroit is awsome. Everyone should have one at least in back. Front is good also, Will take a little getting useto. In sand it wants to pull straight.
