Just ordered:
-plug wires
-points
-Distributor cap, rotor, and condensor
-oil pan gasket
-2 oil filters
-spark plugs
-ignition coil

I need to get this thing running in a somewhat reliable form for LJS

Next comes ordering 5 of these:
Image

And 5 of these in a 235/85R16:
Image

Once the weather becomes a little more reliable here I'll spray enough paint on it to make it mostly one color :seuss:

Picked up some goodies... a Dana 44 and Dana 27 for $100

The 2A came out from under the tarp (finally)...
Image

Unlike the KJ... the 2A sat for 4 months in the back yard under a tarp. I hooked up a battery, it started right away, and I drove it around the block

Time to dive into this monster...
Image

Well... I tried to tune up my engine and wound up confused (again)...

Pulled the plugs.... hmmmm... a little rich?:D
Image

Then came the compression test... [drum roll]
60-60-60-60 YIKES!! haha

I added some oil to the cylinders: no change

So it's time to adjust the valves. I pulled off the valve cover and all the tappets were pretty wide (feeler only goes to 0.026 and it had plenty of room). Pic shows the left one adjusted properly vs how wide the others are:
Image

Compression test again... no change...:?

I'm thinking that it might be good to replace the head gasket, retorque the head, and do a leakdown test... unless there are any suggestions...

Dude, I am so interested in this build.

My grandfather just handed down a 1947 CJ2A to my father and I. I has been sitting in a barn for quite a long time now, so it will need some reconditioing in the engine bay. The body is somewhat rough, but overall, it is in great shape for a vehicle made in the 1940's that has been sitting for years.

I'm using your thread for ideas, so keep them coming.lol

We want to get it going good enough to do a little off-roading. Not looking to do a major restore for a while. I still have to finidh my 1967 Mustang before I taheavily tackle the CJ.

I need to get pics up of it.

We haven't pulled it out yet. I just took pictures last weekend of how we found it. Getting the garage area ready to get it in there. Can't wait!

It should be very complete. A guy purchased it from the Army and used it at his store. My great grandfather purchased it and used it on the farm. He passed it down to my grandfather who used it around his farm for a while before he parked it. Sat there ever since. It was running perfectly when parked and it has never been touched.

I haven looked it up yet. I will as soon as I get it out though.

I had seen it there when I was a kid, but didn't care about Jeeps much then. After I got my KJ and took it off road, my grandfather reminded me that he had it. He said that he had always wanted to pass it down to my father, since he was an only son out of four kids, but my dad never really thought about putting time into it. He wanted me to have it. A lot of history in that thing. They have lots of stories about it. I'm going to add some chapters. :D

My dad recently purchased a 2009 4-door, right-hand drive Wrangler and the Jeep feaver has hit him pretty hard as well. So, we are going to make this into a nice father and son project. :JEEPIN:

I'm checking out your thread for ideas and such. Your build is looking nice and fun!

I'll post up a "Build" thread when we pull her out of there and get started.

OK so more tuning got done and more parts showed up today. Finished painting the rear rack and got it installed as well.

I can't seem to figure out what's up with the Jeep and the way it's running... I can get it to idle fine, drive fine on easy ground/downhills, etc... but as soon as I get on the gas in 3rd gear the Jeep seems to hesitate and lose all power... For a while it acted like it wanted to backfire out the carb so I richened things. Still hesitates... can't figure it out.

I also hooked up the vacuum gauge to see if that shed any light... vacuum seems good. I posted up a video of the startup/idle/vacuum if anyone can help me out on how it looks...

Image

Oh and check the new seats... they'll be getting installed in the next couple of days...

Getting there...

The metal frames ARE the seats from WWII... these new seats cost 1/4 the price of getting the originals recovered

Someday I'll get the originals refinished and back in there... the new ones can go into another toy 8)
