it was stock when i got it, 4.0, ax15, 3.73's and dana 30/35... i was invincible.
Image

first mods were a snorkel, a bb and 33's
seen here:
rocks are hard to find in florida, but they exist.

old video:

now it looks like this:

and some more recent videos...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWi74_NUQ0w

it's part cj, yj, tj, chevy k 30, and dodge ram 1500.

there's a thread on btf that has the whole build condensed to a single page:
http://www.bluetorchfab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1041

but the original build thread is on my home forum. http://www.floridajeepers.net
Project SideStep

spec list is currently:

k30 front and rear one ton axles. dana 60 front and a 14b rear. 5.13 gears and 39.5 boggers
1981 cj dana 300 transfer case mated to a
46re from a dodge ram 1500 which is attached to a
magnum 5.9 V8 also from a dodge ram with some mild mods and cowl snorkel.

suspension is on the front a BTF full width kit for a yj using 6 leaf yj sensored word packs
on the rear is the yj stretch kit that is supposed to use xj leaf springs, but i have stock chevy springs in there instead for a stronger springs with better anti wrap characteristics.

steering is done by BTF high steer arms, heavy wall dom, and heims.

but for florida, with recent trail legalities and closures it's a bit much for non mud trails. so i'm downsizing.

when i'm done it'll be a CYTJ20K15H2

i'm going down to 35" procomp xterrains, and a dana 60 rear and 44 front with 4.56's. axles will be from a j20. k30 parts will be dropped, but the k10 springs in the rear will stay, and the wheels are h2 wheels.

Image

the downsizing will be happening over the next month or so. will post pics and build info if there is interest for it.
the main build thread for that is also on FJOA, but i will try and remember to cross post over here too.

If there are rocks he has to be in the panhandle... Unless they are imported.

there's rocks around. i'm in tampa, and ones i posted under the small stage of my jeep are in the ridgemanor area (hour north of tampa) but have ventured out as far as the ocala area to find a few rocks.

those are from a place i know in ocala. it has since been closed down and posted with keep out signs like so many other places.

it is, but the boggers are just way too big for what florida has to offer. other than the mud.

i couldn't imagine trying to make this turn on this dead manatee with the huge booty stance i have with the boggers.

Image

hell, i couldn't make it with the xl's

Image
Image
stance was too wide and the tires were too skinny.

you really need hydro powered 4 wheel steer to get through this turn on full widths without making a cluster f_ck out of it.

i'm switching to narrower full widths axles and wheels that are more tucked in. to the untrained eye, i'll just look like a regular jeep when i'm done. like a sleeper.

my thinking is that at the very least i'll still be able to drag myself over stuff like that and still fit through all the small stuff just fine.

ok things i learned this weekend...

#1
an isuzu rodeo dana 44 does not use the same pinion as other dana 44's. we were able to find bearings that matched the id of the 44 housing and the od of the isuzu pinion shaft, but the width of the bearings was slightly different and i didn't want to spend over $100 special ordering bearings that i wasn't sure would work for a gear set i only spent $50 on.

#2
caramel pudding is probably not what's supposed to lubricate the bearings of my new 14 bolt.

#3
a dana 44 with drive slugs and a spool probably isn't a good idea. (i needed to get the axle on it's on weight and the isuzu gears i bought wouldn't work. so i borrowed darrens 4.10s and spool to assemble the axle for the time being.)

#4
a dana 44 with 35's on it has more ground clearance than my dana 60 with 39.5's. only a quarter inch more but more is more dammit.
and when i shave the bottom of the 14 bolt down a modest amount i'll only lose a half inch of rear ground clearance with the 35's.

also h2 wheels are hubcentric on chevy axles. so that's nice to know.

end result: as soon as i get ubolts i can swap front axles and will have no jack stand time.

and

losing an estimated 800 pounds and 13 inches of width without losing any ground clearance is a good thing.

only pic i got:

 Sure is going to look WAY different when you switch over. Why are you switching your set up?

to sum it up... i'm just not happy with it. it's not fun.

sure it's as strong as an ox with 3 testacles, but it's just no fun to drive. i can't afford full hydro steering, the tires are sketchy, it still has the rear drums... basically, it just still needs a lot of expensive work that i don't really have the money for. and even with all of it's "problems" it's still so extremely capable offroad that the only time i have any fun is when i take a ridiculously stupid line, and then my only battles are with the steering instead of the terrain... so if it's already overbuilt for 99% of the wheeling around here... why dump the extra 5 grand in it on all the stuff it "needs" ?

...

i'd rather take the stuff i have and sell it to make a better set up that is more enjoyable for what i do.

i have seen the light. i created a monster jeep... and it's over rated. coming back to reality now.
