So something a bit random happened yesterday... thought I'd pass it on as it may turn into something cool :)

I was out in the driveway pulling the alternator out of the Willys when the FedEx truck pulled up and stopped in front of the house. I got a little excited but couldn't remember if I'd ordered anything lately. The FedEx guy walks up to me with his clipboard and says:

"You looking for parts for that thing?"
"Always... you know of some?"
"Well I was running my route today and there's an old guy who lives up on XXXX road (out in the middle of nowhere)... he's got one in a shed that looks like it's straight out of M.A.S.H. I helped him push it out into his yard so he could put a for sale sign on it. I talked with him for a while and he said it just needs a carb kit to get going. "
"Did he mention a price?"
"He said he's take $500 for it."

I then got an exact address and a name from Mr. FedEx... tomorrow the hunt is on...

Good question

Should I call off the deal if it's a preachy MASH Jeep?

A good deal is always hard to pass up. Or at least that’s what I tell my beautiful wife.

Why can't that stuff happen to me?

General is under the KJ/KK section. This should have been moved to the Wrangler & CJ 4X4 Discussion section, not Off Topic. I'm going to report this post of mine to see if the powers will fix that.

Yea, Alan Alda put 20 inch rims on his Jeep, and painted it bright red. It sucked after that. :ROTFL:

Well I did some searching and found the Jeep... I couldn't do too much investigating as no one was home and I didn't feel like getting shot at. As it turns out, it might not be worth $500... and I need to verify if my FedEx guy has ever actually seen M.A.S.H. I left the owner a note in his front door and he called me back within a couple of hours. I'm heading back this evening to look more thoroughly at all the parts he has...

here go the pics....

No tool indents, marker lights seem correct.... body seems shady...
Image

Tail lights are recessed... spare carrier and jerry can rack on back (army?)... body might be more bondo than metal judging from the waviness....
Image

Not sure if there's no tailgate or if it got welded up at some point. Pintle hook added as well.

Interior...

Dash panel with all gauges intact...
Image

Under the front end... looks like some booty fab going on under there....
Image

I'll head back later to see what spare parts he has and to check out the engine/drivetrain.... if the engine is good and the floorpans are good this thing is worth a few hundred buck for me...

Sometimes the parts are worth it. Engine parts, axles, body parts, accessories, etc. Tell the guy that you have $400 cash.

Well I bought the Jeep for $200

Sometime next week we do the paperwork and I'll bring it home.... not quite a barn find, but a full working drivetrain for my Willys and extra goodies for next to nothing....
