Yes, the 6-speed with 3.21 gears is a real slug and an embarrassment. My KJ is better geared with 3.73. I've been tossing around what gears... 4.56 or 4.88. It's a tough call. There's a lot of highway driving out here so I'm leaning towards 4.56 as a good compromise for trail and highway.
I'm riding on 33" M/T's with a 2" lift and have no desire to go bigger or higher. I'm just tired of stalling on the trail every time a rock twice the size of a softball jumps out in front of me and riding the clutch, or stalling on the slightest hill, even in 1st gear 4low.
Currently my RPM is running right at 2,200 rpm or so at 70mph. Using the gear chart below, the 4.56 are a step above recommended gearing, and I'll be turning 2,731rpm with 4.56 gears. I think 4.88 gears might be a tad high at 70mph.
I have until next Thursday to decide what gears.
Opinions.... 4.56 or 4.88??
