He's got a '95 Wrangler, 4.0 with the 5 speed tranny. He just bought this Jeep and started the thing in reverse. This is what he said, "Started just fine until I started it in reverse with the clutch engaged. It bucked, died, and from then on, nothing when key is turned. Maybe coincident.

Battery has checked out and so has the starter (I took both of them in to an auto shop).

I have nothing with key turned on, i.e. lights, radio, etc. I do always have the under hood light come on when I lift the hood, even with the key off.

Jeep starts easy when pulled and runs just fine. lights and gauges work fine when engine is running.

If there is a "safety switch" that kicks in when starting the jeep with clutch engaged, then I can't find that switch. Maybe it is not on this model.

I need ideas before I give in and take it to a dealer."

Besides either fuse, relay or starter solenoid, I'm drawing a blank at the moment. I'll try and think about the problem throughout the day.

Meanwhile I have a YJ FSM wiring diagram in the link in my sig. I'll try to find a full FSM this evening for you to use too.

Check ground wire to block and chasis. Also some vehicles have a fuel pump emergency shut off. When it senses a sudden de-acceration, like you discribe, then it removes voltage to the fuel pump. Should be located on the passenger side foot well under the kick panel. There is a reset button on the box. I don't know that it would remove all voltage though. Good luck.
