I have a '97 Wrangler with a 4 cylinder engine, auto trans. I've found that this engine/tranny combination is no "power house" ... and I'm toying with the an engine swap. I have found many articles on the internet on Wrangler engine swaps, but have not spoke with anyone that actually knows what I may be getting myself into. I like everything else about this particular Jeep ...so trading it in for one with at least a 4.0 is not an option. I have a nice shop with all the tools I need ... just have never tackled an engine swap. If I persue this, can anyone recommend an engine that I can use in place of the 4 cylinder, I would appreciate any input at all. I have looked at everything from a 4L Jeep engine all the way to 350 Chevy ...how can I find out what would work the best with my '97? I've read that some may match closely to a Ford product while others work best with a GM (Chevy) engine. Thanks! Mule4X4 |

I've read a time or two that it is easier to go to a SBC than a 4.0 in a TJ. The knowledge base at www.novak-adapt.com might be a good place to start |
