Hi all, I bought a TJ last week and it has a 4 banger in it. It doesn't drive so I havent been able to take it for a spin, people say they are very slow?

Anyone here has a 2.5? How does it do? :|

I've ridden in a stock 4banger tj and it was fine for city driving, just can't be speedy, it doesn't like it. And if you put 33's on it don't expect to go faster than 60mph on the highway.

Let's see...

Ok, it needs a waterpump, t-stat, fanbelt, a battery, indicator switch and the heater blower is not working due to reasons unknown. Soft-top is shot. That's about it.

Someone stole a fuse from the main fusebox under te hood, searched for 2 hours why there was no power on some of the interior fuses (radio etc).

I drained the fueltank, put new fuel in and it started up right away. I do hope the headgasket is still ok...we'll know tomorrow, pump and other parts just came in.

Got the waterpump in, it runs great, doesn't overheat...but builds up pressure in the cooling system...to much to my liking. Or it's just me...will check it out some more. CEL is on, exhaust makes funny sounds and so on.

Drove from the workshop to my office and tonight I'll drive it home.

Screw CRD, HEMI!!

( I cannot change the engine, then it will never again pass MOT in Spain.... :| )

Still, I think it's peppy enough, for a 4 banger. I get the same 'ooooowhh' feeling from this one as from the V6 JK. Had it at 90 km/ph, after that it gets kinda scary...it's like driving a boat :SOMBRERO:

I need a new radiator, it exploded while testing. So...lets get a headgasket too

Not to much work and now that I have it home I can do it in the yard so no problem. Parts for the TJ are cheap overhere, I can get everything from Germany.

Ripped everything out

Image

The misses helped ('oh, you can take the top off all the way? How cool is that!'....girls.. :? )

Image

Took the hose to clean all the crap out

Image

Very handy, those drain holes

Image

Parts drying in the sun

Image

The girl that I bought it from came by, 'Is that my HEEP, it looks so different???'

'Duh, yes it is...but now it's my JEEP, :ROTFL:'

:BINGO:

Ok, it's all fixed, including a new waterpump, radiator, hoses, t-stat,some other stuff. :dizzy:

Here's a pic of a headless 2.5

Here's a better pic of the head

New gasket

And the head back in place

Keep the rockers and pushrods in a box like this, then you will place them back where they came from.

Drives like new now :SOMBRERO:

slap a 4.0 TB on there while you are at it.

you should have 4.10 gears...if you go over 33" tires you will really want to regear. the 4 banger can be a turd. Ive ridden in one with 4.88's and 35's. It was ok. not my cup of tea, id never own a 4 banger...but they can preform well.

it looks good so far
