Hey folks, so my folks recently informed me that as an early wedding gift they will be getting my fiance and I a new truck. I currently have a KJ and that will be passed to my fiance as her grand am is literally scary as hell to drive. It accelerates to 55 with out a foot on the gas, even while on the brake. It has about 120k miles and not worth the repair. My KJ is in good condition and she is thrilled. So now comes the hard part.

Not sure on limitations yet, but I am having a hard time choosing between the Wrangler Unlimited and the new Grand Cherokees. There are two main things here I need to keep in mind. Children and the Minnesota Sub Arctic winters. I really do not do too much wheeling around here yet, but I love to play in snow. It seems the JK (is it?) would be much better suited for this, also customizing it for beast mode. The WJ (??) is, to me, a great looking jeep for a more tame life. Not to mention the cherokee is a great deal more expensive for the midline model than say a Sahara.

So with those things in mind what would you all recommend? I would like to do more wheeling in the future, but I also have to make sure that the truck can accommodate passengers and a child's seat.

Thanks for any and all assistance. IF you all want some more info let me know.
Thanks,
Joe

The wrangler is indeed a JK, the grand cherokee is called WK2.

Tough question. The GC is a great looking and driving Jeep but would I go wheeling with it...not likely. It's a SUV. Like a Range Rover Sport, or a VW Touareg.

The Wrangler..if you realy want to go wheeling in the future I'd go for that one. Plenty of fun parts around, you can modify it to your taste etc.

If you go with the JKU I would get the 2012 over any other year. The new powertrain is a huge improvement

The extra gear on the auto is worth it by it self.
