I do like the metal dashboards on the older Jeeps.

Man! You got all the goodies in the drivetrain!!! I REALLY miss those old dash boards. Talk about room for my knees! My only problem is having wide shoulders, so a soft top and soft doors are the only options that work for me in a CJ. How about an engine picture? I love those 258ci I-6 monsters. :D

will do , it may take till this weekend though. i have been wanting on ever since i was about 5ys old and now i am 27,, not that old but loveing every minute of it.
the dash and front grill is what makes it a jeep for me. simple, easy, beautifullllll, to me.. when it's done it will solid black with every chrome piece that i can find. the dimond plate at the bottom has to go though. i am staying with the origional I6, tranny and xfer case. with about a 6inch lift and some nice 33's.

Nice, glad you ended up getting one! I have recently started working with mine. The 258 is a beast...it runs/revs like a deisel. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. It is a really simple set up (as I am sure you know). Do you have A/C?

Not having the A/C isnt always a bad thing...it idles at 700 normally, with the A/C on phew, it almost kills the motor. Not to mention how much it is going to decrease MPG.
If you ever have a question about the CJ (LOST is the best place to go for any KJ related ?) Give a try at http://www.jeepforum.com the CJ section there is full of great info. That is where I have learned all about the fun mess of wires and vaccums surrounding my motor  .

That looks EXACTLY like the one on my old '74 CJ6. Talk about a torque monster! Now I want a CJ again. Back to the stress of what to park outside if I get one though...

Those were the days when you could fix your own car properly without a computer!

Modern engines are so boring to work on. You replace parts instead of fix them and you end up needing a computer to alter timing, fuel mixtures etc..... ah for the simpler life :)

Unfortunately Jeep didn't come to the UK until 1992 so cj's are pretty rare here.

Good luck on your project.

Ian

very nice jeep I took me almost half a year to find my CJ when I was in high school, but we ended up finding one almost around the corner and we think that the lady was scared to drive it because they didnt use any degree shims to correct the steering after they did a 2 inch lift on it. It had the origial I6 with a torqueflite 999 tranny, not a spot of rust anywhere on it. But not long after mid senior year I ripped the suspension from the under side and built a spring over lift with 2" springs and over the spring steering setup, and built a custom dana 60 in the back, the front end is where you have to pay the most attention, I recall adding about 4 degrees to the caster.

Nice cj, I love them old things, I've had 5 of them, wish I still did. The 258 is a torque monster and if you really want to give it some snap. Put a 4.0 head on it and the mopar FI kit, it's supost to be good for a round 50 hp and better mpg, it's like having a stroked 4.0. Inclines and angles won't bother it like it does with a carb. Hope you enjoy it as I'm sure you will !!!!!!!!!!!
