Long story short bought a cj with a 304 for cheap but don't want quadtrac. Is there another case that will bolt right up. I'm pretty sure it's a th400 auto

Unfortunately any tcase will need an adapter to replace the quadratrac. The other problem is your rear axle is offset to the pass side. The only other tcase jeep made like this is the Dana 18(which is a great tcase). It would be better to swap the tranny and tcase together along with a different rear axle. Their are two torque flights that will bolt up to the amc motors unique bolt pattern and the 727 had a d300(best tcase jeep made) bolted with it. You could easily swap the rear axle to a centered amc20 if you go with anything other than a d18.
