Post subject:  TJ - old-school muffler

Hi everyone, folks, I was wondering, if anyone could recommend a good old-school muffler for a TJ? You know, something like glasspack mufflers or maybe there is something that's offered specifically for Wranglers? But I am concerned about that old-school sound. Thanks.

Don't get a glasspack muffler. The sound of it is so annoying. Consider the Thrush brand muffler. It has a nice rumble.

Best old-school sound you can get in a muffler that doesn't change sound. Gibson MWA series or if you want outlaw, MWA racing series.

Thrush is similar but lighter, and if you have enough HP to heat the exhaust, it melts in the center, crumples, and the sound changes and backpressure increases since the inlet and outlet no longer line up. Design is fine, just made of inferior construction. They drone pretty bad too.
This is not just a "heard it" or "seen it" situation.
This is first person experience.
It happened to me.

1970 dodge challenger, 383 magnum. Crumpled Thrushes cost me 1.86 seconds in 1/4m. They do sound good when new, though.

If you really want to keep it and love it, get a Gibson, Flowmaster, or Magnaflow, they are all top shelf. The Gibson MWA has the best badass growl IMO.
