I just purchased a 92 YJ Islander w/65k miles. It came with a RC 2.5inch lift and 31x10.50's with stock wheels. Keep in mind the Jeep will not be used much for off-roading. Trying to keep value up. I am new to this so bare with me... Option 1: money saver I believe... put 32x11.50's on it w/ 15x8 offset -19mm. Will the 2.5inch lift be enough? Will I need to re-gear? do i need a 15x8 wheel with the 11.50's? if not, will the tire bubble out on a smaller width wheel? Option 2: Add 1 inch shackle lift. Put 285/75R16 tires on it w/ wheel 16x8 -11 offset. (32.8x11.2 tire). Will I need to re-gear? Add a transfer case drop? I've read it depends on the jeep. Some people will have a 3.5inch lift with no transfer case drop or CV. Any help would be greatly appreciated... thank you! |

Option 2 is best bet, but I recommend regearing whenever you lift especially if not going offroad….it will reassure speedo accuracy and accommodate any alignment issues. |

I have a couple of XJ's. One has OME 2 1/2" lift, it has 235/75/15 muddies. The other has 2" blocks on top of the front springs & I replaced a leaf in each of the back springs with stronger more curved ones in the back (Australian Ford Falcon XC). It's got 31/10.5/15 tires all around. Very slight rubbing on full lock. If I was wanting to go big on a YJ, replacing a leaf should be considered. You may need to add correction wedges to help the rear uni. |
