I had the Commander 4.7L for a few days this week and was suitably impressed. I would think the larger engine to be preferred.

I found it felt very solid and surefooted with the 17" Goodyear Fortera HL. I think this would be better than a H3. Novel rear skylight w/ visor. Nice trim w/ the renegade-esque rivet theme inside. Visability was very good and it had the rear backup sensors. Most of my driving was in rainy conditions and felt very confident. Sunroof was nice but I never really like them.

The leather seats could have been more supportive as you slide around abit when cornering. I found the stereo sound to be very good for OEM.

I think a hitch is standard and is integrated into the bumper facia.

Didn't try the 4Lo nor the Sport shift as I was just city/hiway driving. The rear fold down seats still sit high so you have to lift quite a height to load luggage up there... forget about it if you lift this one.

I would have liked to have it longer...

I don't know if I would get this for a family vehicle but I liked it as a few size steps up from the KJ.

Thanks for the write-up. My wife and I are contemplating upgrading her car to something larger (SUV, Jeep, etc..) and this was one of the vehicles we're considering.

Its' not a Jeep, but I was looking at the Chrysler Aspen at the dealership yesterday and I was very impressed. It's like an Escalade for $20K less.

My wife didn't like the Aspen at all. She's favoring the Commander, the Grand Cherokee, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, and (her favorite) the VW Touareg. It all comes down to exactly how much space we're going to need, how much money we're willing to spend, and what she prefers.

Yep. Its all personal preference. I dont think you could go wrong with any of those (except the Toyota lol). I can see why she would like the Touareg though, the interior of that thing is gorgeous.
